A Solar Victoria rebate can upgrade the warranty

Install a Rinnai Enviroflo heat pump in a home on or after 1 July 2023, and if the customer got a Solar Victoria Solar Homes Program hot water rebate, the whole unit gets 5 years parts and labour. That's well above the standard warranty for the same unit.

What does the Enviroflo warranty actually say?

In the warranty document's own words, a 5-year whole-of-product parts and labour warranty applies for domestic use where a hot water rebate has been received under the Solar Victoria Solar Homes Program, for installations from 1 July 2023.

Compare that with the standard warranty for the same range and the gap is big. EHPA, EHPS and EHPT are the Enviroflo model series.

Rinnai Enviroflo warranty document. With the rebate, the whole unit gets 5 years parts and labour, which mostly lifts the parts with the shortest standard cover, not the cylinder.

EHPS and EHPT5 years parts / 3 labour3 years parts / 1 labour1 year parts / 1 labour

Notice where the gain is. The standard schedule already gives the cylinder long cover. The rebate-linked warranty lifts the refrigeration circuit and everything else, which is often where the expensive failures happen.

Which rebate does it need?

A Solar Victoria Solar Homes hot water rebate. That's a separate scheme from the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program and its certificates (VEECs).

Don't mix them up. A customer who's had a VEU rebate hasn't necessarily had a Solar Homes one, and it's the Solar Homes rebate this warranty hangs on.

Why should you mention it on a quote?

It's useful and, as far as we can tell, nobody advertises it. It's buried in a warranty document, not anywhere a customer or an installer would look.

That makes it a good thing to know on a quote. If a customer's eligible for the Solar Homes hot water rebate and weighing up this product, the rebate isn't just money off. It changes the cover they end up with.

One honest caveat. This is one brand's clause on one range, so don't generalise it. We haven't found the same deal on any other brand. That doesn't prove there isn't one, so check the warranty document for the brand you're quoting.

Rethinking which brands you carry?

It's a bigger decision than the margin on the next job, because it decides who you ring when something goes wrong in year four.

Kevin will tell you how the ones you're considering actually behave on warranty.

Who this is for: small and medium HVAC contractors in Victoria. If you're a homeowner after a rebate or a repair, you need a licensed contractor, not us, and yours can point you the right way.
