Website Visibility Scorecard

Your website isn't there to tell people how good you are. It's there to get a stressed customer to pick up the phone. Ten minutes with this scorecard shows you whether yours does that, or whether it's losing you work before anyone rings.

  • 25 yes or no questions in five sections
  • Score your site out of 25
  • Your weakest section, and the three things to fix first

Grab your phone, not your laptop. That's how most of your customers will see your site. Pretend you've never heard of your business and your air con just died on a 38-degree day. Tick a box only if it's a clear yes. “Sort of” is a no. One point per tick, 25 points all up.

Section 1 of 5

Can they find you?

1Search “air conditioning installation [your suburb]” on Google. Do you show up on the first page or in the map results?
2Is your Google Business Profile claimed, with correct hours, phone number and service area?
3Have you got at least 20 Google reviews?
4Have you got a review from the last month?
5Do you reply to your reviews, including the bad ones?

Section 2 of 5

The first ten seconds

Most people decide in seconds whether to stay or hit the back button and ring the next bloke.

6Does the site load in under three seconds on your phone?
7Is your phone number at the top of the page, and does it ring when you tap it?
8Can you tell within five seconds what you do and where you do it?
9Is the main headline about the customer's problem, not about you?
10Does it work properly on a phone, with no pinching and zooming to read it?

Section 3 of 5

Does it answer their questions?

11Are the jobs you do listed in plain English?

“Split system not cooling” beats “comprehensive climate solutions” every time.

12Are the suburbs you cover listed by name?
13Does it say how quickly you can get there?
14Is there a rough price guide, even just a range?
15Does it explain what happens after they get in touch?

Section 4 of 5

Can they trust you?

16Are there real photos of you, your team, your van and your finished jobs?

No stock photos of smiling models in hard hats.

17Are your licence numbers shown?

ARCtick, plus electrical or plumbing where it applies.

18Are there customer reviews on the site itself, with real names?
19Is there a real business address, or at least your home base suburb?
20Is your warranty or workmanship guarantee spelled out in a sentence or two?

Section 5 of 5

Is it easy to get in touch?

21Is there a quote or booking form with no more than five fields?
22Is there a way to contact you after hours (form, text or online booking)?
23Do you get back to web enquiries within two hours during work hours?
24Is there a clear call to action on every page?

“Call now”, “Book a service”, not just a contact page in the menu.

25Have you tested your own contact form in the last month to make sure it actually arrives?

Where should we send your results?

What your score means

21-25
Solid.

Your site is doing its job. Keep the reviews coming and keep it current.

15-20
Not bad, but you're leaking work.

Fix the gaps in your lowest section first.

8-14
Your site is costing you jobs.

Customers are landing, getting lost and ringing someone else.

0-7
You're close to invisible.

Start with your Google Business Profile and your phone number, today.

Red flags: fix these this week

  • Your phone number is buried in the footer or on a separate contact page
  • The home page opens with “About us” or how many years you've been going
  • Stock photos of smiling models in hard hats
  • No reviews anywhere, or the newest one is over a year old
  • A contact form that goes to an email nobody checks
  • Your site was built by someone you can't get hold of any more
